Washington City Police Officer charged with battery, official misconduct

Washington Co., Ind. (Press Release) -- A Washington City Police Officer was formally charged Tuesday for his involvement in a December 24, 2011 battery of a man he had arrested.

Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. EDT Barry A. Hudson, 27, Washington turned himself in to authorities and was formally charged with Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury an A Misdemeanor and Official Misconduct a class D Felony.

On January 26, 2012 the Indiana State Police began a criminal investigation into an alleged battery that took place on December 24, 2011. The investigation was requested by Martin County Prosecutor Michael Steiner after he was named the special prosecutor in the case.

Through the investigation detectives established enough probable cause for arrest warrants to be issued for Hudson. At 1:00 p.m. today Hudson had his initial court appearance and bonded out on a $2,500 Bond. His trial has been tentatively scheduled for October 23-26, 2012.
