I spoke with Carl Snowden a few
days after the Druid Hill incident. While we did not speak on the Druid Hill
incident, Mr. Snowden did voluntarily state that he and his sons have been
secretly video taped. Carl Snowden also commented that the ACLU is involved in
the case and there is a $20 million law suit against Anne Arundel County. When
asked why anyone would want to video tape his children Carl responded, “It is
political”. Carl Snowden has been known to be an advocate for civil rights.
His
efforts to keep civil rights in the forefront may have placed him as a victim
of civil rights violations. According to Mr. Snowden, someone that works for
Anne Arundel County government has been secretly video taping him and his
children. Wbaltv.com (April 3, 2012) reported: Carl Snowden is allegedly on
some sort of enemy list of John Leopold, County Executive. Also according to
Wbaltv.com (April 3, 2012) Anne Arundel Deputy Police Chief Confirms Dossier
Existed: “Leopold was charged earlier last month in an indictment that contains
accusations that he used police officers as campaign workers and, on other
occasions, instructed officers to drive him to sexual encounters in parking
lots with a former employee of the county executive's office.
Deputy Police
Chief Lt. Col. Emerson Davis told County Council members that he had direct
knowledge of the dossier.” With all that is going on in the lives of Carl
Snowden and his children some may began to wonder the validity behind the Druid
Hill arrest. Wbaltv.com (April 24, 2012) Maryland civil rights leader busted
for pot in Druid Hill Park: Carl Snowden charged with marijuana possession,
reported: “Officers said they noticed brown cigar paper and green plant
material (suspected marijuana) in plain view inside of a cup holder. Police
said Snowden identified himself. His passenger was identified as 28-year-old
Anthony Hill. Police also said they found additional marijuana in Hill's
pocket. Both were arrested.”
ABC2news.com (April 23, 2012) Carl Snowden
arrested on pot charges reported: “Baltimore City Police arrested civil rights
leader Carl Snowden on marijuana charges near Druid Hill Park on Friday. Police
say Snowden, director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office of Civil
Rights, was arrested on Friday in the 3200 block of Reisterstown Road after
police smelled marijuana coming from the car Snowden was driving. A police
report says the arrest was prompted by a “strong odor” of suspected marijuana
along with police observation of a “brown paper cigar” containing “green material”
in a cup holder.
Police also arrested Tony Hill, the passenger in Snowden’s
car, who police allege had a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana in his
right pants pocket.” Peter Herman (April 23, 2012) Baltimore Sun reported:
“Carl O. Snowden, the civil rights chief for the Maryland attorney general’s
office who was arrested on a drug charge last week, was in a car with a
convicted felon in Druid Hill Park when city police officers smelled marijuana,
according to court documents released Monday. Two officers said in a charging
document that they pulled up in an unmarked car Thursday afternoon, approached
a 2010 Honda Pilot with all four windows rolled down, and smelled a strong odor
of marijuana coming from inside. In the charging document on last week's drug
arrest, officers Vaughn J. Diggs and Sherrod Biggers said the suspected
marijuana "blunt" was in plain view between the driver's and
passenger's seats. The officers did not write that they saw either suspect
smoking the suspected drugs.” This writer’s has known Carl Snowden for over 25
years. Carl Snowden is also known by many locally and globally for his
accomplishments in the civil rights movement.
In 1993, Carl Snowden supported
black secret service men who claimed they were refused service and alleged
discrimination by an Annapolis Denny’s Restaurant. As a result, the restaurant
signed an agreement with the NAACP promising to provide more black restaurant
owners and hire more black employees. During the early eighties, Carl Snowden
visited South Africa and met with Cleric Desmond Tutu, activist and opponent of
apartheid, in support of abolishing apartheid. Peter Herman, reporter of the
Baltimore Sun, stated in his article “the officers did not write that they saw
either suspect smoking the suspected drugs”. There is no mentioning in any of
the above articles that Carl Snowden had drugs on his person. However Carl
Snowden was busted on pot charger according to an article; or arrested on
marijuana possession according to police. To all my readers, it would behoove
you to question associations on arrest records and what is in their pockets
while in their presence.
