Officer suspended after unauthorized trip
HINDMAN, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky police officer has been
suspended for three days after driving a work vehicle to Tennessee and parking
it in a spot for disabled people.
Knott County Homeland Security Director Greg Mullins told WYMT-TV (http://bit.ly/LHBz6K)
that officer Nelson Reynolds did not have authorization to take the vehicle
outside county lines.
Mullins said Reynolds drove to Kingsport, Tenn., due to a family
emergency and had a disabled person with him when he parked in the spot, but he
broke regulations by not getting approval for the trip from a supervisor.
Mullins says Reynolds turned in a personal gas receipt, but he will also
be required to pay the county back for mileage in addition to the unpaid
suspension.
