A former police
officer in Milwaukee is now facing felony charges after allegedly failing to
provide the police department information concerning a homicide that involved
her child's father.
The 22-year-old woman
is accused of one count of aiding or harboring a felon. She was a probationary
police officer and had only been with the department for a short time at the
time of the shooting incident. She was fired due to her alleged actions in
connection with the matter. Now, she needs to focus on mounting a criminal defense to
answer to the charges she is facing.
The charges stemmed
from an April 29 incident involving alleged murder and armed robbery. According
to official reports, the defendants, including the father of the officer's
child, went to the woman's home after the crime. They say the father confessed
that one of them had just murdered someone. Police believe the man also shared
explicit details about the rest of the crime, as well.
The woman allegedly
reported to work that same day and failed to report anything about what she had
been told. The woman's co-workers told investigators that she did not share any
information, including that her car might have been used during the robbery, or
that the murder suspect had been in her home. They claim she did use the police
department's computers to find information about the incident and other details
about the crime.
As the young woman
prepares to answer the charges she will need to carefully review the specific
accusations against her. To date, only one side of the story has been told. Her
version of events is yet to be told and pending that she is entitled to the
same presumption of innocence and vigorous criminal defense that all U.S.
citizens are entitled to.
