Greenwood Police
arrested a former Southport Police officer Thursday for the death of his
estranged girlfriend earlier this month.
Police say 44-year-old
Michael Richards was taken into custody after a lengthy investigation into the
death of 44-year-old Michelle Andrews on June 2. Her body was found inside an
apartment in the 1100 block of Stonehedge East Drive near County Line Road and
State Road 135. An autopsy shows Andrews died of blunt force trauma.
An arrest warrant was
issued for Richards, who was taken into custody at Wheeler Mission where he was
staying. He faces felony charges of Aggravated Battery and Involuntary
Manslaughter. He's being held in the Johnson County Jail on $28,000 bond.
