A Covington police officer found himself on the other
side of the law. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon for several things,
including trying to purchase a firearm from a felon.
According to his arrest affidavits, it all started with a
call on July 12th that Officer Hall allegedly made to dispatch while on medical
leave from the police department. While Hall was on leave, and not supposed to
be acting as an officer, he asked the dispatcher to look up a gun to see if it
was stolen. The reason? The affidavit says is because he wanted to purchase it
from a convicted felon. It says he “received a benefit when he purchased a
handgun.”
On the same day last week the Covington Police Chief Tim
Glass says Hall made threats to officers on the force. The District Attorney
says he heard about those allegations,. but no charges were filed.
But the D.A. says more charges are coming and more people
could be arrested. News that got mixed reaction from people who live in
Covington.
“That’s a real shock i didn’t expect that from any of our
officers,” one resident said.
“It doesn’t surprise me there are always crooked cops out
there,” Andre McMillan said.
As for officer Hall he remains behind bars. He is held
without bond pending a mental evaluation.
His official charges are listed as, misuse of official
information, compounding, and Criminal Responsibilty for Felon in possession of
a firearm.
