Protestors Claim Police Brutality by Youngstown Cops

More than 20 people protested outside of Youngstown City Hall on Thursday.

They held signs claiming police brutality and unfair courts in the city. The demonstration centered around Desiree Johnson and Doretha Weston.

The women claim they were assaulted by a YPD officer last year during a traffic stop. Johnson was found guilty last month for actually assaulting two officers during that stop. Both her and Weston also were convicted for obstructing official business.

"I was assaulted. I'm a victim of police brutality. I'm a victim of racial discrimination, police brutality, intimidation and retaliation," Weston said during Thursday's protest.

"Certainly we were attentive to what their complaints were. We investigated with internal affairs. We determined it was unfounded. Then we turned it over to the criminal courts. They were found guilty by a jury of their peers," said Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley.

Both women will be in court Friday for a sentencing hearing.
