A civil rights complaint has been filed against a Nantucket
police officer in U.S. District Court in Boston, alleging excessive and
unreasonable force in an incident outside The Chicken Box nightclub last
September that left a man with a fractured skull.
Eric Kaminskas, a 39-year-old Michigan man, claims he was
tackled by Nantucket police officer John Hubbard outside the nightclub and
slammed to the ground with such force that he suffered a skull fracture,
requiring surgery and leaving him with lingering health effects. The ensuing
medical bills stemming from the Sept. 4, 2011 incident ballooned to more than
$140,000, and Kaminskas and his attorney, Howard Friedman, have also alleged
that Hubbard lied about the incident in the police report to cover up his
actions.
