Des Moines Police Officer Brandon Singleton was charged early Thursday
morning with domestic assault in connection with an incident that occurred with
his estranged wife.
Singleton, 28, was fired in May after Des Moines police officers reportedly
found marijuana and methamphetamine in his patrol car.
On Thursday, Pleasant Hill police responded at 3:51 a.m. to a call in the
1100 block of Flagstone Lane. Police discovered Brandon and Lacey Singleton,
who are separated, at the townhouse.
Lacey Singleton, 24, showed up at her husband’s home because she wanted to
see him, but he wasn’t there, police spokesman Adam Choat said. She told police
that there was someone she didn’t like inside the house, so she kicked the door
in.
Brandon Singleton arrived home shortly after the reported break-in. He
asked Lacey Singleton to leave, but she refused, police said.
Choat said Brandon Singleton grabbed his wife by the arm with one hand, put
his other hand on her neck, dragged her down the stairs and pushed her out the
front door.
When police arrived, they saw signs of a forced entry on the door frame.
Lacey Singleton was cited with third-degree burglary and released.
Brandon Singleton was charged with domestic assault; police said there were
marks on his wife’s neck.
Choat said both Singletons were cooperative.
Brandon Singleton was arrested April 24 after officers reportedly found
drugs in his patrol car after he hit a parked car and drove away. He was on
paid leave for about three weeks before being fired for violating a laundry
list of department regulations.
A criminal proceeding is under way. Singleton has pleaded not guilty.
