EAST HAVEN (AP) -- A retired East Haven police officer is
accused of stealing money from the department's evidence locker.
Michael D'Amato, a detective in the youth division who
retired last December, was charged with larceny. The Hartford Courant reports (http://cour.at/K058sa
) that State Police say he stole more than $1,000.
The 50-year-old D'Amato is scheduled to appear at New Haven
Superior Court on May 17. Police say the investigation is continuing.
A woman who answered the phone at D'Amato's home said there
would be no comment.
Four East Haven police officers were arrested in January,
accused of waging a campaign against Latinos, including beatings and false
arrests.
