Cotter
Police Chief Aubrey Byerly confirmed this morning that he has suspended
patrolman Charles L. Slater following Slater's arrest Wednesday evening on a
misdemeanor domestic battery in the third degree charge. Chief Byerly said
Slater, who lives in Gassville, is free on a $565 bond and has a June 11th
appearance date in Baxter County District Court.
Byerly said the investigation into the domestic incident is still underway by the Gassville Police Department and that he suspended the 27 year old Slater without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. He emphasized the suspension has nothing to do with guilt or innocence, but was done to insure the integrity of Cotter Police Department. He said he is working extra hours until a decision is reached on Slater's status.
Byerly said Slater joined the Cotter Police Department last summer and prior to that was employed as a police officer in Marshall.
