MILWAUKEE- Two MPD officers have been suspended for driving drunk and on Thursday, the police chief chimed in about the case.
The two officers have been suspended, and it was addressed by the fire and police commission Thursday night. Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn told TODAY'S TMJ4 it's the right call when his officers don't make the right decisions.
"We imposed what we thought was the appropriate sanction for the conduct that was engaged in," said Flynn.
The officers were arrested for driving drunk while they were off duty. "We've got 2,700 civilians and sworn officers in this agency and from time to time we don't meet our own standards and when we don't, we take appropriate action."
Gina Metz and Lynn Vandenbush have been suspended for 30 days. It's the latest in a series of officer-related issues the department is dealing with, including the possible suspension of 16 other officers for conducting personal business during work hours.
"That information will be coming very soon. We have to do some notifications and when those are complete, we will advise the commission and it will be a matter of public record," noted Flynn.
TODAY'S TMJ4 also asked the chief about any updates regarding the police beating incident on Water Street last month. He said more information on that investigation will be coming out very soon.
