Ex-N.O. cop sues city over firing

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A former New Orleans police captain who supervised two officers who were charged with burning a man's body after Hurricane Katrina has sued the city and police department over his firing.

In a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court, Jeffrey Winn accuses Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas and other police officials of violating his constitutional rights.

Winn wasn't charged in the death of 31-year-old Henry Glover, who was shot and killed by a former police officer before a different officer burned his body in a car less than a week after the 2005 storm.

But Winn was fired last year for allegedly failing to tell superiors what he knew about the burning of Glover's body. Winn says he didn't learn until 2009 that a police officer set the blaze.
