NEWBURGH – A detective who
has been a Newburgh city police officer since 2000 has been suspended for 30
days. Police Chief Michael Ferrara confirmed that Det. John Staton has been
suspended, but would comment no further saying it was a “departmental personnel
matter.”
The chief said the matter
was being handled by the city’s corporation counsel.
Staton was among a few
police officers singled out two years ago in a lawsuit filed by a female police
officer who alleged she was harassed by comments from him and other officers.
Details of the current
situation facing the detective could not be learned on Wednesday.
