Chattanooga Police officer accused of drinking on the job at Riverbend

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - A 25-year veteran of the Chattanooga Police Department is accused of drinking on the job during the last night of Riverbend on Saturday. According to a news release to Channel 3, Officer Steve Jones was also cruising around on a police motorcycle.

The CPD placed Jones on administrative leave after suspecting that he was under the influence of alcohol while on duty. His blood was drawn and sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations to see whether Jones was drunk with a badge.

The investigation is still on-going and he is facing possible internal policy violations as well as criminal charges. The CPD reports concerns with how the preliminary investigation was handled which is being reviewed by the Internal Affairs Division.

CPD Police Chief Bobby Dodd has agreed to take Channel 3's questions on Tuesday morning. Count on Channel 3 Eyewitness News to follow this developing story.
