A local police officer has been suspended for three days
without pay
SALISBURY — A local police officer has been suspended for
three days without pay following an internal investigation that was completed
yesterday.
Officer Patrick Szymkowski had been on paid administrative
leave in the days following an incident that took place Saturday, June 9,
according to Town Manager Neil Harrington.
Harrington wouldn’t comment on the specifics of the
incident, citing advice from the town’s attorney.
“It’s pretty straightforward. Unfortunately, these
occurrences happen from time to time and we make every attempt to deal with
them swiftly and fairly,” Harrington said.
Szymkowski, who makes a base salary of around $53,000, has
been reinstated to the police department but has yet to serve his three-day
suspension. The timing of his suspension will be worked out between himself and
acting police Chief Robert Roy. Szymkowski is one of 12 officers on the force.
The department’s newly hired chief Thomas Fowler is expected
to begin his tenure July 16.
