Hearing Set in Doylestown Standoff

Hearing Set in Doylestown Standoff, Homicide Detective Fired for Overtime Abuse, Sandusky Trial

A preliminary hearing has been set for Richard Klementovich to be held this Friday. Klementovich surrendered late yesterday after a 10 hour standoff with Doylestown Police that included him firing 118 rifle shots at SWAT and Police and their vehicles. One officer was injured from concrete shrapnel when a bullet hit the curb. Klementovich called police to his ex-wife's house reporting a civl dispute. When police arrived they found a note on the driveway stating that he was a police officer, had a heavy arsenal and was ready to die. He barricaded himself inside for the rest of the afternoon as the neighborhood was evacuated. Klementovich is a police officer with the Clifton, NJ force and an Army vet. He is charged with multiple counts of attempted criminal homicide.

Homicide Detective Ken Rossiter has been suspended 30 days with the intent to dismiss after Internal Affairs investigations into complaints of overtime abuse. In 2010, Rossiter made a base salary of $67,165, however he logged enough OT hours to earn an additional $91,271, more than anyone else on the force. IA detectives say Rossiter was at home instead of at court where he had checked in and was earning overtime many times. Many in the department acknowledge that the 30-year vet is an asset to the force and an excellent detective, however, improper overtime usage shouldn't be overlooked. Rossiter wants a chance to defend himself.

The presiding Judge in the Jerry Sandusky case says it is likely the defense will rest Wednesday and that the jury will have the case in their hands for deliberation by Thursday. The defense for the former Penn State football coach called character witnesses today who talked about how Sandusky was admired for his work with his charity and his coaching. Judge Cleland recessed for the day early to deal with “technical issues” with other witnesses. He also stated that once deliberations begin the jury will be sequestered.
