HOUSTON—The man who said a police
officer waved a gun at his family during a road rage incident in Houston last
Friday has been arrested on a separate matter.
Billy
and Christina Shaw were driving down Old Spanish Trail with their five kids in
the back seat on June 1, 2012 when they apparently ticked off another driver.
The
Shaws said they had left the Texas Medical Center and were headed to a
washateria on the other side of Highway 288. They quickly realized they were in
the turning lane and needed to get over. They thought the guy behind them was
going to let them in, but he did not and that’s when they said the road rage
began.
The
couple said the other driver – who turned out to be a police officer – pulled
alongside them and flashed a gun, then got out of his car at a red light.
Billy
Shaw said he also got out of his car because he would rather have the man point
the gun at him, than at his wife and children.
The
Shaws called 911 and gave police the suspect’s license plate. They watched him
from afar pull into a dry cleaners business and that’s when they saw a police
uniform.
Police
were investigating the road rage complaint, but in the meanwhile, it was
discovered that Shaw had some trouble with the law himself.
Shaw
was arrested for having four outstanding felony warrants, with charges
including credit card abuse in North Texas.
HOUSTON—When road rage got out of
control on the highway a local man called police, and then he realized the
angry driver was a police officer.
Billy and Christina Shaw said it
happened Friday as they drove down Old Spanish Trail with their five kids in
the back seat.
The Shaws said they had left the
Texas Medical Center and were headed to a washateria on the other side of
Highway 288. They quickly realized they were in the turning lane and needed to
get over. They thought the guy behind them was going to let them in, but he did
not and that’s when they said the road rage began.
“He came up on my side and was just
waving (a gun) talking with it like somebody would talk with their hands,”
Christina Shaw said.
“There is no reason, whatsoever, to
pull a gun, flash a gun. It’s not like he was in danger or nothing,” Billy Shaw
said.
The Shaws said at the light the man
with the gun got out of his car.
“It’s a bad look, and to feel like
everything that you cherish can just be taken away, from somebody having a bad
day, it’s a bad feeling,” Billy Shaw said.
Billy Shaw said he got out his car
too.
“I’ve got five kids in the car, so I
would have rather him point the gun at me than my wife and five kids,” he said.
The Shaws called 911 and gave police
the suspect’s license plate.
They watched him from afar pull into
a dry cleaners business and that’s when they saw a police uniform.
The Houston Police Department said
it is investigating and that it appears the suspect is a peace officer, but not
one of theirs.
No charges have been filed yet.
