Allentown police officer fired for stealing baseballs, ice pop from Coca-Cola Park, sources say

An Allentown police officer was fired tonight after allegedly breaking into Coca-Cola Park and stealing two baseballs and an ice pop, according to sources.
Robert Leuthardt, 33, of Bethlehem, was terminated by a unanimous city council vote for "violating departmental rules and regulations, applicable laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and violating his oath of office," according to city documents.
The alleged thefts occurred in April, according to sources with knowledge of the incident. The Allentown stadium is home to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs minor league baseball team.
Additional information about the alleged incident was unavailable tonight.
Council members and police Chief Roger MacLean refused to publicly discuss the reasons for the termination because personnel issues are confidential.
"We will not allow questions from the public because it's a private personnel matter," Council President Julio Guridy said during tonight's meeting.
Leuthardt was not present at the meeting. Visited at his home, he declined to discuss it and referred all comment to his attorney, John Waldron, who could not be reached late tonight.
Leuthardt, of the 200 block of Seventh Avenue, had been with the Allentown Police Department since March 3, 2008, according to city council meeting minutes.
Leuthardt was suspended without pay from the Allentown Police Department at an undisclosed previous date at the recommendation of the MacLean, according to city documents.
Council held a closed-door civil service hearing tonight, then later voted 7-0 during their public meeting to approve the termination.
Criminal charges have not been filed against Leuthardt in connection with any thefts, according to a state court docket database.
