No
agreement could be reached in the federal lawsuit filed by Chelsea Garrett, a
Summit County resident who claims Stow police brutalized her during a traffic
stop.
Garrett
was seeking $250,000 in damages and rejected the City of Stow’s offer to settle
the case for $10,000, according to Fox 8.
Garrett,
a diabetic, is a 23-year-old college student who claimed to be suffering from
periodic black outs after leaving the scene of a November car accident in Akron
and nearly hitting a Stow police vehicle.
Once
pulled over, Garrett proceeded to exit her vehicle and approach the officer.
The suit indicates that Garrett was punched in the chest, tased three times,
including once while she was handcuffed.
"We
support the actions of the officer and believe he acted in accordance with
training and policy," Law Director Brian Reali told Patch.
