Kingsport police chief accused of misconduct

Kingsport police chief accused of misconduct

KINGSPORT, Tenn. --

A TBI investigation involving the Kingsport Police chief may soon begin after allegations of misconduct.

Mayor Dennis Phillips told us he requested the investigation of the Chief Gale Osborne after receiving an email from a former Kingsport Police Department employee.

In that email the former employee accused Chief Osborne of using government assets for his personal interests.

Mayor Phillips told 11 Connects the allegations all relate to a rental house owned by Chief Osborne.

The former tenant, a mother with a child, passed away.

That's when the chief got a judge's permission to remove items from the home - to prevent them from being stolen.

Those items were then placed in a city owned storage building.

Mayor Phillips said even though Chief Osborne told him he did this to protect the child, accusations of misconduct have to be investigated.

We continue to track the developments in this case and will bring you updates as they become available.
