A veteran Brockton
cop was arrested on charges of shaking down an undercover police officer, in a
bust that was monitored by police caught on camera, authorities said.
Michael Sullivan,
who has worked on the department for 24 years was charged with two counts of
larceny from a person. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday and
was released on his own recognizance.
The Brockton police
internal affairs division said in a report that it will file full reports soon
and more charges are possible.
Police said in
March Sullivan was captured on a Brockton police security camera taking money
from a victim, whose identity police are not releasing.
Cops said that on
Wednesday “while on duty and adorned in uniform” took money from an undercover
police officer. That exchange was also captured on camera, police said.
“At this time
several similar incidents have been noted to have taken place between the March
incident and the date of this report, which are under review with the intention
of charges to follow,” police said in a report.
Defense attorney
Michael Darche said Sullivan, a 1977 graduate of Brockton High School with
bachelor’s and master’s degrees, has a stellar reputation for honesty, and
looks forward to being able to present his side of the story to the court. .
“This is a very
serious allegation,” Darche said. “He’s very appreciative of the support from
his friends and family and by his fellow police officers many of whom have
reached out to him to say he enjoys their complete support.”
Darche said
Sullivan is due back in court June 15.
