Mt. Pleasant police major arrested for DUI

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

A Mt. Pleasant police major was arrested by South Carolina Highway Patrol after a wreck Saturday afternoon in Georgetown County.

Troopers charged 51-year-old Frank Riccio with DUI after the wreck, which occurred around 2 p.m. Saturday.

State troopers say Riccio was driving on Highway 17 when his Jeep ran off the left side of the road into the median and came to a stop on its side.

Riccio was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center.

The Major was released on a $997 personal recognizance bond after a hearing this morning.

Mt. Pleasant police say Riccio has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

Just last week, a Charleston police officer was also arrested for drunk driving. Mt. Pleasant say an officer pulled over John Woods on Chuck Dawley Boulevard after he ran a red light.

Police say they could smell alcohol on Woods' breath. He was arrested and charged with DUI and is now on administrative leave without pay.

Woods has been on the force with the Charleston Police Department since 2007.
