Officer Arrested With $300 Worth of Stolen Sheets in Car

The officer faces grand theft and commercial burglary for allegedly stealing from the hotel where he worked part time
A now-suspended LAPD officer was arrested last month after police found hundreds of dollars worth of linens, which he is suspected of stealing, in his car, Laguna Beach police said.
LAPD Officer Jeffry Quinton will be arraigned Wednesday on suspicion that he had been stealing money and goods from the Sand and Surf Hotel, where he moonlighted as a security guard, Laguna Beach police said.
Money had been disappearing from cash register draws that had been locked up overnight, prompting hotel staff to call the authorities, said Jason Kravetz with Laguna Beach police.
An investigation into the missing cash began in Dec. 2011, when staff installed extra security cameras to catch any culprit that may be prowling around the high-end hotel.
Existing cameras were covered with duct tape while the suspect pilfered the goods, police said.
When police arrested Quinton in February, polce said he had $300 worth of hotel sheets in his car.
But the investigation dealt mainly with hundreds of dollars that had gone missing from the hotel.
Quinton faces two felony counts: grand theft and commercial burglary. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of 3 years 8 months in state prison.
Quinton is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation, LAPD said.
