Springfield NAACP

Springfield NAACP reacts to police brutality case

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Former Springfield police officer Jeffrey Asher was found guilty of assault and battery charges yesterday and now the president of the regional NAACP chapter, Rev. Talbert Swan is reacting.

Swan sent a letter to judge Maureen Walsh who is deciding Asher's fate saying:

"Mr. Asher has single handedly turned back the clock on police community relations and eroded efforts toward rebuilding trust...as you deliberate concerning an appropriate sentence for Mr. Asher, please consider the negative impact his actions have had on our city as a whole."

Asher will be sentenced on March 28 and faces up to five years in prison.
