TUSCOLA, IL - An Arcola police officer arrested by Illinois State Police is accused of keeping traffic citation payments he collected from motorists, according to Douglas County court documents.
Rogelio Javier Gutierrez issued a citation to an Arcola motorist on Feb. 28, kept the $300 fine he collected and marked the citation to indicate that the fine wasn't paid, the documents say. They also say the citation and fine money were never turned in and police found other citations listing cash had been paid at Gutierrez's home in Humboldt.
Illinois State Police announced Gutierrez's arrest on Friday. He posted the $10,000 needed for release from jail and his first court hearing is scheduled for March 23. Gutierrez is also a police officer in Hindsboro.
