SCMPD
officer suspended two years after deadly shooting
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Two years after Larry
Wall was fatally shot by Savannah Metro Police officer Jason Carey, a police
spokesman said Carey was suspended pending termination Monday.
"I feel joy and
sadness at the same time. I'm just really happy he is off the streets," Wall's
cousin Cinnamon Dowdy said.
Wall was shot several
times when Officer Carey tried to arrest him in March of 2010.
Family members say
Wall called police to report vandalism and when Officer Carey showed up he
realized Wall had warrants.
The two got into a
scuffle. The officer was stabbed and Wall was found dead.
"Carey shot him
in cold blood four times," Beaufort said.
Wall's family says
Officer Carey and Wall went to school together.
The family has sued
the city and says the officer's termination is a step in the right direction.
