A
Prince George’s County police officer has been suspended after being found with
a woman who was arrested on drug charges in Washington, D.C. Friday night.
The
county police department is now probing whether the newly-hired officer was
involved in the woman’s alleged drug possession, though the officer is not
facing any charges as of Tuesday.
The
officer, Stephen Kingman, has been with the department for one year and was
working as a probationary officer in District 1, said Sgt. Sonya Rorls, a
county police spokeswoman.
Rorls
said Kingman was in the same vehicle as the woman when they were pulled over by
Metropolitan Police Department officers around 8 p.m. in the 5300 block of
Fitch Street SE. She said MPD police notified Prince George’s County police
when they discovered Kingman, who’s been suspended indefinitely as an
investigation is underway.
Rorls
said she did not know what type of drug was allegedly recovered from the woman.
MPD
is handling the drug possession incident.
Calls
to Gwendolyn Crump, MPD’s acting director of communications, were not
immediately returned Tuesday.
