A fired Dallas police sergeant has been indicted on nine felony counts
accusing her of fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs.
Former Sgt. Stormy Magiera, 37, was fired in February after internal
investigators concluded she fabricated a robbery, inappropriately used weapons
and illegally obtained prescription drugs.
In December, Magiera received the department’s Medal of Valor for helping
save occupants of a burning apartment building.
But that same month the department began investigating her over an
incident in which Magiera fired her gun at a man she said was trying
to rob her in far northeast Dallas.
Police arrested that man but came to believe that the robbery never took
place. Police have said the sergeant had in fact been trying to obtain
hydrocodone without a prescription.
In a statement Tuesday, Magiera said she was innocent and that all of her
medications were lawfully prescribed to her to treat numerous medical problems.
“The truth will come out in my trial and I am confident that in the end,
justice will prevail.”
