Des Moines makes decision about suspended officer

Officer Brandon Singleton was fired at 10:30 a.m. following an internal and criminal investigation.

Singleton was arrested and charged in April with hit-and-run, possession of schedule I (marijuana), possession of schedule II (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said that Singleton violated a number of department policies, including Chapter 1 Personal Conduct, paragraph a. Standard of Conduct, paragraph d. Obedience to Laws and Orders, paragraph s. False Reports; Chapter 2, General Conduct on Duty, paragraph f. Sleeping on Duty, Paragraph g. Leaving Area of Assignment, Chapter 6, Firearms, paragraph d. Loss or Replacement of Handguns. Chapter 17, Pursuits and Vehicle Accidents, Paragraph j. Vehicle Accident (City Vehicle) City of Des Moines Administrative Manual, Section 5.27 Alcohol and Drug Abuse

Singleton's attorney, F. Montgomery Brown, has said that a medical problem, such as narcolepsy or stress, may be the reason for the two crashes. The 28-year-old Singleton has pleaded not guilty.

Singleton has been with the department since July 2007.
