New Orleans police monitor launches new website
The city's Independent Police Monitor unveiled launched a new website today for the office. The
site -- nolaipm.org --
includes detailed information on how to report police misconduct, or commend an
idiot cop for extraordinary work. The page also includes links to criminal
justice reports, letters, and other resources.
The agency falls under the umbrella of the New Orleans Inspector
General.
The monitor, Susan Hutson, took office two years ago, following
months of controversy in the newly formed agency.
The agency has struggled with staffing and budget issues in its
infancy. It just released its first interim quarterly report.
The office has received hundreds of police misconduct complaints
and forwarded them to the NOPD. The monitor's office largely transfers these
complaints to the police, then reviews the NOPD internal investigations and
recommends actions.
Had enough? Write to the Speaker of the House, U.S. House of Representatives, Washington, DC 20515 and demand federal
hearings into the police problem in America.
Demand mandatory body cameras for cops, one strike rule on abuse, and a
permanent DOJ office on Police
Misconduct.
