STOCKTON, Calif. -- Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of downtown Stockton in the wake of a police shooting that left a 32-year-old man dead.
Police - some clad in riot gear - were deployed during Tuesday's demonstration against police brutality. Police say one person was arrested and some patrol cars were vandalized, but officers were able to handle the crowd.
The protest followed the officer-involved shooting Friday of Luther Brown Jr. in Stockton. Police say Brown was driving without license plates and ran after he was pulled over. They say he was shot after taking an officer's baton during a struggle.
A search of Brown's car allegedly turned up marijuana, crack cocaine, prescription pills and a large amount of cash.
Brown's family has questioned why police did not use a stun gun to subdue him.
