Two Madison officers suspended for policy violations

Two Madison police officers were suspended for violating department policies in separate incidents, both occurring last summer.
Summaries of both cases were released Friday by Lt. Dan Olivas of the Madison Police Department's Professional Standards and Internal Affairs Division.
The identities of the officers were not released, per department policy.
The first officer was found to be in violation of two counts of failing to complete a required report and one count of improperly disposing of seized contraband. The officer was suspended a total of 11 days without pay, five days on each of the reporting violations, one day for the property handling violation.
Olivas told Madison.com the officer had been disciplined before for a reporting violation.
The second officer was found to be in violation of the department's public criticism policy because of an incident in August.
"While participating in a multi-agency event, the officer was critical of a fellow department member in front of several members of other agencies," the summary said.
The officer was suspended without pay for five days.
Olivas said the officer had been disciplined in the past for a similar violation.
