Mendota Heights police chief, sergeant facing allegations

Mendota Heights police officers have made allegations of misconduct against Police Chief Mike Aschenbrener and Sgt. Eric Petersen.

The allegations were made in a letter from police officers received by the city on Feb. 1, said Mendota Heights City Manager Justin Miller. The city is taking them seriously and has referred the matter to the Carver County Sheriff's Department for investigation, Miller said. It is common for outside agencies to handle such investigations to avoid a conflict of interest.

Miller declined to make the letter public and declined to outline the allegations. When the county finishes investigating the complaints, the city will take the action, if any, recommended by the sheriff's department, Miller said.

Aschenbrener referred all questions about the matter to Miller. The sheriff's department said it does not comment on matters that are under investigation.
