A DeKalb County police officer spent several hours in jail following his arrest for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Georgia State Patrol officers stopped Dwayne Nevil Vaughn, 42, shortly before 3 a.m. Feb. 11 on Piedmont Road in Buckhead after witnessing a Ford Expedition crossing into other lanes, according to an incident report obtained by the AJC.
Vaughn, of Lithia Springs, had recently left the Beluga Martini Bar when he was stopped, according to the report. The trooper stated in the report that Vaughn smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and red eyes and swayed after being asked to get out of the SUV.
Vaughn told the trooper he was heading home after having a beer at the bar, and identified himself as a DeKalb County officer, the report states.
Vaughn consented to sobriety testing, and a preliminary breath sample tested positive for alcohol, according to police.
He was arrested and charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane, failure to maintain a traffic device and other driving violations, according to Fulton County Jail records. Vaughn was released from jail after posting $7,300 bond, jail records show.
DeKalb County Police did not respond to a request to confirm Vaughn's employment.
