Former Macon officers indicted on theft, burglary charges

Bibb County grand jurors have indicted two Macon police officers who resigned in January after they were accused of stealing a tractor from a Macon plumbing company.
Troy Everett Guidry, 40, and Jon Adam Wantz, 32, are charged with violation of oath by a public officer, theft, criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit burglary, and burglary, according to an indictment filed Tuesday in Bibb County Superior Court.
Wantz also is charged with theft in connection with his allegedly stealing a .22-caliber revolver belonging to the city of Macon between Dec. 17, 2012, and Jan. 24, while he was still employed as a police officer, according to a separate indictment.
Grand jurors also indicted Guidry on an additional three theft charges and two counts of criminal use of an article with an altered identification mark.
Guidry and Wantz, who were assigned to the police department’s Precinct 3, headquartered on Pio Nono Avenue, have been accused of stealing a Kubota tractor and trailer from Mr. Rooter, 2688 Roff Ave., on Jan. 24. The tractor and trailer were later recovered behind Guidry’s Juliette home.
The men are accused of using a pellet gun to shoot out lighting fixtures at the business. Police found pellets inside the patrol car Wantz had used that morning.
Authorities found a utility trailer and lawn mower at Guidry’s home that had been stolen from the Bibb County school system’s maintenance yard at 2048 Roff Ave. in August 2012.
Guidry is accused of illegally taking two Chevrolet pickups, two trailers and two lawn mowers belonging to the board of education, according to the indictment.
Authorities also recovered a laptop computer from Guidry’s home that had been stolen from a Macon police patrol vehicle. The serial number had been removed, but police identified it as belonging to the department.
Guidry and Wantz also allegedly conspired to burglarize Boone Orthodontics, 3150 Northside Drive, on Jan. 24 by going inside the building before they planned the burglary and deciding what they wanted to take, according to an indictment.
The men allegedly burglarized North Macon Medical Complex, 3951 Ridge Avenue, Suite B., on Nov. 15, 2012, according to court records.
Guidry and Wantz were released on bond soon after being arrested.
